Ascender presents a solo exhibition by Blackson Afonso, exploring the black body as a space of quietude, emotional depth, and speculative possibility.
Operating in the tension between visibility and perception, Afonso constructs images that resist urgency. Figures exist in suspended states — neither narrative nor illustrative — opening space for ambiguity, projection, and introspection; symbols reappear without resolving, and meaning remains open.
Rather than instructing the viewer, the work invites a slower form of looking that privileges feeling over explanation, and presence over certainty.
