Lilian Walker (b. 1994, Brazil) is a visual artist who lives and works in Coimbra, Portugal. She is a PhD candidate in Contemporary Art at the University of Coimbra, supported by FCT (Foundation for Science and Technology), and holds a Master’s and Bachelor’s degree in Visual Arts from UNICAMP, including a period of study at FBAUP (Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Porto).
Her practice begins with an interest in the surface as a site of contact, passage, and transformation. Skin, understood as a porous yet profound surface, serves as a reference point for exploring the relationship between body and world, interior and exterior, near and distant, matter and space. These concerns are articulated through hybrid forms and scales, from small-format works to spatial interventions, through a painterly approach that moves across different supports and materials.
Working with processes of printing and transfer, the artist shifts images into a field of ambiguity, giving them a material condition — surfaces open to layering, alteration, and erosion. This intervention extends into space, where her interest in surface expands to the exhibition context and the landscape, incorporating the site itself into the work.
